I don't usually like surprises. Either they turn into a negative or they just don't live up to the anticipation.
The day started with dropping off Random at the bus stop, which is 3 miles from our house in case your wondering why I drive him. Then a treat of breakfast at this little restaurant that I recently found and adore, where I was surprised to notice that the owner/waitress remembered that I preferred tea over coffee. Nice surprise.
Then I went to get my haircut. This is usually a huge production for me because I never know what I want. 6 months ago I went with a pixie cut. Now I'm growing it out and it's at that awkward stage. Surprisingly the hairdresser knew exactly how to cut it so that it doesn't look awful while I recover from my midlife crisis. Nice surprise.
I also needed to get my nails done. Of course I broke one that morning, while below the spot where it could be trimmed. Turns out you can glue cracked nails. I never would have thought of that. Surprisingly, I managed to not screw up my polish after I was done either. Nice surprise x2.
Then there was the meeting. The first ever spouses meeting. This had the potential to become a serious knock down, drag out, no holds barred brawl. But it didn't. We just talked. Like real, respectful human beings. I left with a feeling of hope. Maybe things will finally change. Really big surprise.
