Gallery Shows

While I was wondering around New London, CT the other day I came across a new gallery. The Marquee Gallery was finishing up an exhibit. The director, Clint, invited Tim and I to look around. Some of the pieces were astounding. None of the pieces were by artists I knew.

As we browsed the selections in the exhibit, Clint told us about a new show that will be opening at the end of the month. It's called Fill in the Blank. The show is an open artist show where the public will vote on the pieces. The winner will receive a 2 week solo show and reception.

Over the years I've taken several images that were more for artistry than commercial use. I hang them in my studio or give framed prints to various charities for use in their auctions. The thought of possibly doing a full show is intriguing. I was going to submit some work to another gallery for a photographer's show but I missed the deadline for entries. I have so many ideas on what type of show I could do.

I could focus on something tribal, the pow wow, or my extensive collection of Mashantucket Pequot tribal members. Or I could go through my vast assortment of images of children, or landscapes. Or I could work on something completely different. I've had so many ideas but many of them never made it past the idea stage. I needed to focus on building my commercial work. But now I'm established in my commercial work, so I have more time to devote to making some artistic pieces.

So many ideas... Where to start...

Well to start I should pick a few good images and submit them for the show. Even if I don't get chosen for the show, or if I don't win, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get all those artistic ideas finalized. Once I have a collection together there may be a gallery interested in displaying the work anyway.
