Before Now by Cheryl McIntyre

This is book 2 in a series but it's not a sequel, which I love. Park was jilted as a lover and became a hard, mean person because of it. Lucy is a little too naive and good for my taste but she is a fun character to read. What I love about this book is that the author put just enough background in so that you could read it as a stand-alone but not so much that you felt you were re-reading the first book.

I think it also changes the reader's perspective of the book and Park's character if they have read the first book. The storyline is well thought out and well written. I like the writing style of continuing the story but the POV switches every chapter from one main character to the other. I also like that McIntyre develops all the secondary characters, not just the main ones. I find myself wondering which people will be the focus of her next book.

I look forward to more works from this author as she is fun to read and the stories are believably romantic - not just Bodice Rippers; (ie there isn't a sex scene 3 pages in like in some modern romances) The storyline is very touching in places and I actually cried. I never cry but I cried over her books. I couldn't put the thing down because I was so entranced by it.
